CALL FOR PAPERS

International Journal of Applied Logic: Special Issue on Uncertain Reasoning

Guest editors:
Souhila Kaci (LIRMM, University of Montpellier, France)
Robert E. Mercer (The University of Western Ontario, Canada)
Matthias Thimm (University of Koblenz, Germany)

This special issue is a following-up of the FLAIRS-2014,2015 special tracks on uncertain reasoning (UR). Although primarily addressed to selected papers of the special tracks, this call for papers is open to external submissions.

Topic description:
------------------
Many problems in AI (in reasoning, planning, learning, perception and robotics) require the agent to operate with incomplete or uncertain information. The objective of this special issue is to present and discuss recent advances on uncertain reasoning, including theoretical and applied research based on different paradigms.

Papers on all aspects of uncertain reasoning are invited. Papers of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

* Uncertain reasoning formalisms, calculi and methodologies
* Reasoning with probability, possibility, fuzzy logic, belief function, vagueness, granularity, rough sets, and probability logics
* Modeling and reasoning using imprecise and indeterminate information, such as: Choquet capacities, comparative orderings, convex sets of measures, and interval-valued probabilities
* Exact, approximate and qualitative uncertain reasoning
* Bayesian networks
* Graphical models of uncertainty
* Multi-agent uncertain reasoning and decision-making
* Decision-theoretic planning and Markov decision process
* Temporal reasoning and uncertainty
* Non-monotonic reasoning
* Conditional Logics
* Argumentation
* Belief change and merging
* Similarity-based reasoning
* Construction of models from elicitation, data mining and knowledge discovery
* Uncertain reasoning in information retrieval, filtering, fusion, diagnosis, prediction, situation assessment
* Practical applications of uncertain reasoning

Paper Submission:
-----------------
Submitted papers must not be submitted concurrently to another journal. Papers must be in the journal format (http://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-applied-logic/), and sent (PDF) to: kaci@lirmm.fr, thimm@uni-koblenz.de and mercer@csd.uwo.ca

Important Dates:
----------------
Paper submission due: October 15, 2015
Author Notification: January 15, 2016
