The Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics (ikg) invites applications for the position of a

*** Research assistant (PhD student, 13TV-L, 50%) ***

starting at the earliest possible date. The position is limited to three years, with the possibility of extension. The part-time position can be increased to 75%.

Tasks:

Responsibilities include research and teaching in the field of spatial and spatiotemporal statistics and quantitative research; theoretical and empirical research in statistics, environmetrics, computational statistics, Big Data, statistical/machine learning, data science.

Employment requirements:

Candidates must hold a scientific university degree (Diploma/Master) in one of the following subjects: mathematics, statistics, computer science, geodesy, geoinformatics, or similar degrees with a quantitative focus. Applicants should have a strong interest in empirical geo-related research. Programming skills (R, C++ or Python) and motivation for scientific work. Very good communication skills in English are expected. No proficiency in German is required.
