Dear Colleagues,
we are organizing a special session entitled Uncertainty in Medicine to be held within the
Information Processing and Management of Uncertainty in Knowledge-Based Systems Conference (July 11-15, 2022, Milan, Italy).
All details about the conference can be found at:
https://ipmu2022.disco.unimib.it/
The session aims at exchanging the experiences of scientists struggling with uncertainty in medicine and discussing possible future developments in this area.
Uncertainty is a serious problem in everyday medical practice, and it is observed and described in the medical literature. There are many meanings and types of imprecisions in medicine with each of them having a different effect on the diagnosis or treatment.
The imprecision types may be divided into objective (caused by the complexity or nature of the phenomenon) or subjective (caused by a personal opinion or doctor’s interpretation) or caused by the low quality of the information, e.g., due to incompleteness
of the data. Through the use of soft computing methods, it is possible to construct models that, when uncertainty is taken into account properly, increase the effectiveness of medical decision-making.
Potential topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Submissions can be made through the IPMU’2022 website:
