[SIPTA] PhD studentship at Durham in offshore transmission systems asset management under severe uncertainty

Dear SIPTA friends, An exciting PhD opportunity is available at Durham, which directly seeks to develop and apply methods from imprecise probability to applications in offshore transmission systems asset management under severe uncertainty. The project is a collaboration between the School of Engineering & Computing Sciences, and the Department Mathematical Sciences, at Durham University, UK. It also involves active collaboration and support from the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult (a UK-based Industrial Research body), with facilities across the UK in Blyth, Glasgow and Fife. The funding includes fees at the UK/EU rates plus a monthly stipend (£1.2k per month) as well as additional funding for travel and consumables. Non-EU students have to provide the difference between international and UK/EU fees which is currently around £18k per year. The Tenth International Symposium on Imprecise Probability: Theories and Applications (ISIPTA ’17) FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS http://isipta.idsia.ch The ISIPTA conference is the primary international forum about theory and applications of imprecise probability. Imprecise probability is a generic term for the many mathematical and statistical models and methods, allowing us to measure chance or uncertainty without the restriction of sharp probabilities. As usual, we have many very interesting talks, in particular, talks related to uncertainty quantification (imprecise probabilities included). Many thanks to conference co-chairs, Stefanos Kollias and Yaochu Jin, for the great organization. The 2017 conference will be in Honolulu, Hawaii, November 27 - December 1, 2017. Michael Beer, Rudolf Kruse, and myself are again organizing a symposium on Computational Intelligence in Engineering Solutions.
