ACM SIGMETRICS Doctoral Dissertation Award The SIGMETRICS Doctoral Dissertation award recognizes excellent thesis research by doctoral candidates in the field of performance evaluation analysis of computer systems. The award winner will receive a plaque, a $1,000 honorarium, and a complimentary registration to the ACM SIGMETRICS conference. The SIGMETRICS Doctoral Dissertation Award winner and up to two honorable mentions will be recognized at the annual ACM SIGMETRICS conference. *Eligibility:* - The final dissertation defense should take place at the nominee’s host institution during the 12 months prior to the submission deadline and not earlier than the previous submission deadline. Each submitted doctoral dissertation must be on a topic related to the measurement, modeling, analysis, and/or design of computing systems and networks. Of particular interest is work that presents new performance evaluation methods or that creatively applied previously developed methods to make predictions about, or gain insights into, key design tradeoffs in a variety of computing, networked, and cyber-physical systems. PhD Opportunities in Foundations of Epistemic Uncertainty in Machine Learning at NTU Singapore

Dear SIPTA community, I am currently recruiting motivated and enthusiastic PhD students with a strong mathematical, statistical, or computer science background to join my group at the College of Computing & Data Science, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. The position starts in January (or August) 2026 and is fully funded. Our research focuses on the foundations of epistemic uncertainty in machine learning. The student will work closely with me on both mathematical theory and practical algorithm development, to build intelligent systems that not only make accurate predictions, but can also recognise their limitations and communicate what they know, and how well they know it, with clarity and confidence. AI-Fun with ELLIS Seminar | Theo Damoulas: Distributionally Robust Optimisation with Bayesian Ambiguity Sets

Dear SIPTA Members, The Manchester Centre for AI Fundamentals and Manchester's ELLIS Unit are co-hosting a series of seminars featuring expert researchers working in the fundamentals of AI. On 18 June, we are joined by Prof Theo Damoulas from the University of Warwick. Title: Distributionally Robust Optimisation with Bayesian Ambiguity Sets Bio: I am a Professor in Machine Learning and Data Science with a joint appointment in Computer Science and Statistics. I am a Turing AI Fellow (2021-2026) having received the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Turing AI Acceleration Fellowship in order to lead research on setting the Machine Learning Foundations of Digital Twins. I am an ELLIS member and also affiliated with New York University as a Visiting Exchange Professor at the Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP). My research interests are in probabilistic machine learning and Bayesian statistics with an emphasis on the study and integration of various forms of structure and inductive biases (structured priors, spatiotemporal dependencies, dynamics, compositions, physical laws, flows, causality, etc) while advancing robust and scalable approximate inference methodologies. My research has broad applications in Digital Twins, Bayesian nonparametrics and spatiotemporal problems in urban science and computational sustainability. I am the founder and PI of the cross-departmental Warwick Machine Learning Group and I lead two large projects at The Turing that are impact stories. Please consider joining!
