==Call for papers PGM 2016 is the eight edition of the International Conference on Probabilistic Graphical Models. PGM 2016 will take place in Lugano (Switzerland) between the 6th and the 9th of September 2016. The site of the conference is http://pgm.idsia.ch. The conference provides a high quality forum regarding the latest developments in probabilistic graphical models. We welcome contributions on topics such as: *Bayesian (belief) networks, chain graphs, Markov random fields, decision networks, influence diagrams and other probabilistic graphical models (PGMs); *Information processing in PGMs (exact and approximate inference, sensitivity analysis, etc.); *Learning and data mining with PGMs; *Links between PGMs and statistics, information theory, optimization, and decision making under uncertainty; *Softwares based on PGMs; *Applications of PGMs to real-world problems. Each submitted paper will be reviewed by three reviewers. The Program Committee includes about 50 PGM researchers; see http://www2.idsia.ch/cms/pgm/organization/ for the full list. ==JMLR Proceedings The conference proceedings will be published in the proceedings track (http://jmlr.csail.mit.edu/proceedings/) of the Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR). ==IJAR Special Issue Selected papers will be invited to be extended and then submitted to a special issue of the International Journal of Approximate Reasoning (IJAR). ==Submission procedure The instructions for submission and the author kit are available here: http://www2.idsia.ch/cms/pgm/submissions/. Hi, all. I'm writing to let you know about the AXA 2-year postdoctoral Fellowship on BASIC research dedicated to “A better understanding of Risk”. More details are below. At Queen's University Belfast, there is a first round evaluation since only two proposals are going to be passed on to AXA. If you have interest or know someone who has, let me know. Internal decisions will be taken in November and the proposal will be sent to AXA in December. Dear SIPTA members, Please consider the call for papers below and forward to anybody you think might be interested. kind regards, cassio. --------------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS International Journal of Approximate Reasoning Special issue on Statistical and Computational methods for genomics and integrative genomics http://www.journals.elsevier.com/international-journal-of-approximate-reaso… Background and Scope: In the last decade, the advent of microarray and next-generation sequencing technologies has created the need of statistical and computational methodologies specifically developed for dealing with these types of data and novel biomedical research goals. Genomic data measure quantities (such as, gene-expression, copy number, genotype, methylation) at several thousands or millions of positions along the genome, resulting in an enormous amount of information from which to extract the relevant content. They are usually noisy and subject to uncertainties due to non-biological variations, which must be taken into account during the modelling and inferential processes. Many other issues arise when the field of application regards the study of complex genetic diseases, since patients can be highly heterogeneous and several different lesions may alter the same biological pathway. Moreover, the number of patients is usually small with respect to the number of variables, which brings another facet to the problem. Approaches that try to overcome all these difficulties rely on biological assumptions and integrate established knowledge and multiple types of data. Data integration may comprise not only different genomic data, but also clinical and other patient information. Combining all this information by an accurate biological and statistical modelling may allow us to achieve reliable biomedical discoveries. Inferential and computational issues must be also considered, as data have very high dimension and computational resources are limited. Papers are sought on theoretical and practical considerations involving statistical and computational approaches to address problems and data from the biomedical domain, including but not limited to: Next generation sequencing data Microarray data Data integration in genomics Genetic network modelling and inference Gene pattern discovery Disease classification and prediction Biomarker discovery Computational biology General methodological and algorithmic developments are also welcome as long as they have a clear applicability to the biomedical domain.
