This special session aims to give a broad overview of applications of Bayesian modelling to handle knowledge-based uncertainty in assessments and decision making. A full-time PhD Scholarship on Regression with Interval Data is available at the University of Hull, Department of Physics and Mathematics. Regression is one of the main methods of statistical analysis, widely used in all application fields. However, data are often not of the quality required in order to perform standard regression analyses. In particular, data are often interval-censored, meaning that data values are not known exactly, but only known to lie in particular intervals. The goal of the PhD project is to develop a well-founded general approach to regression with interval-censored data. The closing date for applications is 2 February 2015. These special sessions can aim at fundamental, theoretical or practical issues regarding reasoning under uncertainty, in symbolic and quantitative settings. INSTRUCTIONS Submission of proposals should include: * the session title, * a short description of the session and its main topics, * the session relevance to the ECSQARU conference, * a list of organizers (at least 2), * a list of potential submissions (if possible). Each special session should contain at least four papers. The proposers are expected to have a PhD degree and have a good publication track record in the proposed area. After review, a decision on whether the proposal will be accepted will be sent to the proposers. However, it is possible that an accepted proposal will be combined with another one to avoid multiple special sessions covering a similar topic. Accepted special sessions will be listed on the conference website. A final decision will be made two weeks after the submission deadline. SUBMISSION AND REVIEWS FOR SPECIAL SESSION PAPERS Manuscripts intended for special sessions should be submitted through the general paper submission website as regular submissions. During submission, authors submitting to special sessions should check the corresponding category. Papers submitted to special sessions will undergo the same review and decision process as regular papers. Organizers will be consulted to propose potential reviewers. Apart from a certain pride and self-promotion, the other reason why I am writing this email to the list is to advertise the name of the journal to our community. As some of you will be aware, publishing an imprecise probability paper in a traditionally oriented statistical journal can be horribly tough; this is the case even if we use the traditional statistical language and take all the possible care to prevent criticism. I am thinking in particular of the papers that have the potential to affect the statistical practice rather than the purely theoretical papers. Dear Friends in Imprecise Probability, We have an opening for a researcher position at our imprecise probability group at IDSIA. Duties ------ The person hired on this position will evenly share her/his working time on two main activities: - basic research, aiming at publishing in highly rated journals and international conferences; and - applied research, by taking responsibility of cutting-edge projects in tight collaboration with companies. A cross-activity will be the search for funding opportunies of both basic and applied research. Requirements ------------ - This position is for a junior researcher (say <= 35 years). - Doctorate degree and master degree with top grades in mathematics, or physics, or engineering, or informatics, or statistics or other quantitative areas. - Excellent theoretical as well as applied knowledge of Bayesian networks and other graphical models (in particular of structure/parameter learning) and modern data mining algorithms (in particular for classification and clustering, but regression and time series are also desirable). These skills have to be backed up by a good record track of technical papers. - Excellent mathematical skills. - Excellent (software-engineer-level) programming skills (C, C++, Java), knowledge of operating systems (Unix, Linux, Mac, Windows) and development tools (e.g., Eclipse). - Good knowledge of specialized mathematical/statistical environments, such as MATLAB and R. - Good knowledge of computational complexity theory. Deadline extension - new date: ***************************************** 16th July: paper submissions due ***************************************** CALL FOR PAPERS 10th International Workshop on Uncertainty Reasoning for the Semantic Web http://c4i.gmu.edu/ursw/2014 In conjunction with the 13th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2014) Riva del Garda, Italy October 19-20, 2014 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You are invited to participate in the upcoming workshop on Uncertainty Reasoning for the Semantic Web (URSW), to be held as part of the 13th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC) in October 2014 at Fierecongressi SpA, Riva del Garda, Italy. ISWC is a major international forum for presenting visionary research on all aspects of the Semantic Web. The Uncertainty Reasoning workshop is an exciting opportunity for collaboration and cross-fertilization between the uncertainty reasoning community and the Semantic Web / Linked Data community. Effective methods for reasoning under uncertainty are vital for realizing many aspects of the Semantic Web vision, but the ability of current-generation web technology to handle uncertainty remains extremely limited. Thus, there is a continuing demand for uncertainty reasoning technology among Semantic Web researchers and developers, and the URSW workshop creates a unique opening to bring together two communities with a clear commonality of interest but limited history of interaction. By capitalizing on this opportunity, URSW could spark dramatic progress toward realizing the Semantic Web vision. IMPORTANT DATES **July 16** (extended): Paper submissions due July 30: Paper acceptance notification August 20: Camera-ready papers due October 19-20: 10th Workshop on Uncertainty Reasoning for the Semantic Web SUBMISSION DETAILS http://c4i.gmu.edu/ursw/2014/submission/index.html PRESENTATION AND PUBLICATION URSW 2014 will be a half-day workshop. All papers accepted to the URSW will be presented during the workshop and published in the workshop proceedings. Authors of accepted technical papers will have 20 minutes to present their work, while authors of accepted position papers will have a 10-minute slot to share their ideas. After each presentation, 5 minutes will be allocated to questions from the audience. Both technical and position papers will be published in the URSW workshop proceedings, to be available after the ISWC 2014 conference. In addition, extended and revised versions of selected technical papers accepted for presentation at the URSW 2014 will be eligible for participating in a "Journal of Data Semantics" special issue with the best ISWC 2014 workshop papers or in a joint post-proceedings book ("Uncertainty Reasoning for the Semantic Web IV") with papers from the next editions of the URSW workshop.
