The session is organized by Dr Ullrika Sahlin Lund University, Dr John Paul Gosling University of Leeds and Dr Kevin Wilson University of Strathclyde who can provide further information. This special session aims to give a broad overview of applications of Bayesian modelling to handle knowledge-based uncertainty in assessments and decision making. We welcome both applied and conceptual contributions in dealing with knowledge-based uncertainty using a Bayesian framework. For example, contributions are sought on the applications and theoretical considerations of expert elicitation, characterising uncertainty in model parameters and structure, learning strategies and evidence synthesis. The deadline for submitting a 400-word abstract is January 31st. Besides hosting some state-of-the art applications of info-gap theory in assessments the aims of this session are to 1) Demonstrate the potential of using info-gap theory to deal with weaknesses in underlying information or uncertainty arising from making severe extrapolations. 2) Discuss basic concepts behind info-gap theory and how these relate to concepts of risk, uncertainty and decision theory. 3) Encourage novel applications of info-gap theory to treat and communicate epistemic uncertainty in the space between uncertainty quantified by knowledge-based Bayesian probabilities and uncertainty quantified by non-probabilistic measures. We are interested in tutorials on established as well as emerging research topics within the field itself, but we also welcome tutorials from related research fields or application areas (e.g., computer vision, natural language processing, etc.). Important dates --------------- Wednesday, March 10, 2015: Tutorial proposals due. Wednesday, April 15, 2015: Acceptance notification. Sunday, July 12, 2015: Tutorials date. [SIPTA] PhD Scholarship: Regression with Interval Data (University of Hull)

A full-time PhD Scholarship on Regression with Interval Data is available at the University of Hull, Department of Physics and Mathematics. Regression is one of the main methods of statistical analysis, widely used in all application fields. However, data are often not of the quality required in order to perform standard regression analyses. In particular, data are often interval-censored, meaning that data values are not known exactly, but only known to lie in particular intervals. The goal of the PhD project is to develop a well-founded general approach to regression with interval-censored data. The closing date for applications is 2 February 2015.
