Dear fellow Siptians, While we will be sending more detailed information after the holidays, I'd like to give a small update on the organisation of the upcoming ISIPTA. Further details can be found at our website https://isipta23.sipta.org/. You may also check our twitter @isipta2023 for regular updates. A few key points: -Our plenary speakers shall be Gert de Cooman (Ghent University), Marta Kwiatkowska (University of Oxford) and Michel Grabisch (University Paris I). -We shall also make a hommage to the late Terry Fine. -There shall be a poster award and an IJAR young researcher award. The award committees are Ruobin Gong, Alexander Erreygers, Davide Petturiti and Raul Pérez-Fernández (poster award) and Inés Couso, Denis Mauá and Paolo Vicig (IJAR award). Further details shall be given around February. -There will be 4 fellowships to support the attendance of young students, funded by Artificial Intelligence. Details will be given after acceptance of papers/poster abstracts. -The deadline for abstract submission is January 29 and of paper submission, February 5. The UR Special Track at the 36th International Florida Artificial Intelligence Research Society Conference (FLAIRS-36) is the 28th in the series. Like the past tracks, UR seeks to bring together researchers working on broad issues related to reasoning under uncertainty. Topics of Interest Papers on all aspects of uncertain reasoning are invited. Interested authors should format their papers according to FLAIRS-36 conference formatting guidelines. Papers should not exceed 6 pages (4 pages for a poster) and are due by February 13, 2023. The reviewing is a double blind process. Author names and affiliations must be omitted on submitted papers. Papers must be submitted as PDF through the EasyChair conference system, which can be accessed through the main conference web site (http://www.flairs-36.info/) Authors should indicate the Uncertain Reasoning special track for submissions. All accepted papers will be included in the proceedings of FLAIRS, which will be published by the Florida Online Journals. Dear Friends, At today's meeting of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society Board, it was decided that the 2025 IEEE SMC conference will be held in Vienna, Austria, on October 5-8, 2025. The next IEEE SMC conference SMC'2023 will be in Maui, Hawaii, October 1-4, 2023; deadline for special session proposals February 1, 2023; deadline for workshop and tutorial proposals and for papers March 30, 2023, see https://ieeesmc2023.org/ for details. Dear SIPTiAns and IP enthusiasts, We are delighted to announce our upcoming fifth and sixth SIPTA online seminars on imprecise probabilities (IP). These monthly events are open to anyone interested in IP, and will be followed by a Q&A and open discussion. They also provide an occasion for the community to meet, keep in touch and exchange between in-person events. The fifth seminar will take place on the 29th of November (Tuesday) and the sixth on the 14th of December (Wednesday), both at 3pm CEST. Fabio Cozman is a Full Professor at Escola Politécnica (Poli), Universidade de São Paulo (USP), and Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence at USP. He has made many core contribution to artificial intelligence in general, on such varied topics as graphical models, logic or machine learning. He is also interested in the very foundations of reasoning under uncertainty, and has made numerous core contributions to imprecise probability. Preference models are needed in decision-support systems such as web-based recommender systems, in digital assistants and chatbots, in automated problem solvers such as configurators, and in autonomous systems such as Mars rovers. Nearly all areas of artificial intelligence deal with choice situations and can thus benefit from computational methods for handling preferences while gaining new capabilities such as explainability and revisability of choices. Preference handling is also important for machine learning as preferences may guide learning behaviour and be subject of dedicated learning methods. Moreover, social choice methods are of key importance in computational domains such as multi-agent systems. Preferences are studied in many areas of artificial intelligence such as knowledge representation & reasoning, multi-agent systems, game theory, computational social choice, constraint satisfaction, logic programming and non-monotonic reasoning, decision making, decision-theoretic planning, and beyond. Preferences are inherently a multi-disciplinary topic, of interest to economists, computer scientists (including AI, databases, and human-computer interaction), operations researchers, mathematicians and more. Given the increasing importance of handling preferences and of AI methods in general, we are organizing a journal special issue focusing on the recent advances on preference handling and learning, be it through symbolic or numerical models. Topics covered in the special issue include • elicitation of preferences, • (statistical) learning of preferences, • uncertainty in preferences, • modelling and representation of preferences, • aggregation of preferences, • reasoning with preferences, • explaining preferences, • use of preferences in decision making (multicriteria, decision of group) database querying, web search, personalized human-computer interaction, personalized recommender systems, e-commerce, multi-agent systems, game theory, computational social choice, combinatorial optimization, automated problem solving, non-monotonic reasoning, planning and robotics, perception and natural language understanding, applications in particular domains (e.g., healthcare, sustainability). Deadlines and review process: Every submission will be thoroughly reviewed by at least two external reviewers and carefully supervised by one of the guest editors, who will make every effort to guarantee high quality standards.
