The tutorials will be held at the 31st Conference on Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence, on July 12, 2015 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. http://auai.org/uai2015/tutorials.shtml We seek proposals for tutorials on core areas that enjoy broad interest within the UAI community. We are interested in tutorials on established as well as emerging research topics within the field itself, but we also welcome tutorials from related research fields or application areas (e.g., computer vision, natural language processing, etc.). Important dates --------------- Wednesday, March 10, 2015: Tutorial proposals due. Wednesday, April 15, 2015: Acceptance notification. Sunday, July 12, 2015: Tutorials date. How to Propose a Tutorial ------------------------- Proposals are expected to have an overall length of 2 to 3 pages. They should provide sufficient information to evaluate the quality and importance of the topic, the likely quality of the presentation materials, and the speakers' teaching ability. Tutorials may be taught by more than one person to provide a richer, more balanced coverage of an area. When proposing a tutorial, please include the following sections: ** Topic overview -- What will the tutorial be about? Why do you believe this is an interesting and significant subject for the UAI community? ** Target audience -- From which areas do you expect potential participants to come? What prior knowledge, if any, do you expect from the audience? What will the participants learn? How many participants do you expect? ** Tutorial length -- previous years, tutorials were limited to a total length of two hours. If you would like to spend more (or less) time than this, please indicate and motivate your preferred tutorial length. ** Content details -- Provide a detailed outline of the topics to be presented, including estimates for the time that will be devoted to each subject. If possible, provide samples of past tutorial slides or teaching materials. In case of multiple presenters, specify how you will distribute the work. ** Format -- How will you present the material? Will there be multimedia parts of the presentation? Do you plan software demonstrations? Specify any extraordinary technical equipment that you would need. ** Organizers and presenters' expertise -- Please include the name, e-mail address, and webpage of all presenters. In addition, outline the presenters' background and include a list of publications in the tutorial area. A full-time PhD Scholarship on Regression with Interval Data is available at the University of Hull, Department of Physics and Mathematics. Regression is one of the main methods of statistical analysis, widely used in all application fields. However, data are often not of the quality required in order to perform standard regression analyses. In particular, data are often interval-censored, meaning that data values are not known exactly, but only known to lie in particular intervals. The goal of the PhD project is to develop a well-founded general approach to regression with interval-censored data. The closing date for applications is 2 February 2015. Call for participation: Deep Learning and Representation Learning Workshop http://www.dlworkshop.org/ Friday, December 12, 2014 Palais des Congrès de Montréal/Convention and Exhibition Center, Montreal, Canada Held in conjunction with Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) 2014. Please see the tentative schedule here: http://www.dlworkshop.org/schedule Scheduled location: Level 5; room 511 a,b, d,e ---- Deep Learning algorithms attempt to discover good representations, at multiple levels of abstraction. There has been rapid progress in this area in recent years, both in terms of algorithms and in terms of applications, but many challenges remain. The workshop aims at bringing together researchers in that field and discussing these challenges, brainstorming about new solutions. The workshop will present paper submissions in 2 poster sessions with several papers selected for oral presentation. Topics include: * deep learning algorithms and models (supervised or unsupervised, including about building blocks of deep nets, like RBMs and auto-encoders, etc.) * inference and optimization algorithms * semi-supervised, transfer learning, and multi-modal algorithms * theoretical foundations of deep learning (both supervised and unsupervised) * applications of deep learning (convolutional networks, word and sentence representation models, etc.) Through invited talks and presentations by the participants, this workshop will showcase the latest advances in deep learning and address questions that are at the center of current deep learning research.
