FIRST CALL FOR PAPER 5th International Conference on Belief Functions (BELIEF 2018) and 9th International Conference on Soft Methods in Probability and Statistics (SMPS 2018) September 17-21, Compiègne, France Conference website: https://smpsbelief2018.hds.utc.fr/ The Fifth International Conference on Belief Functions (BELIEF 2018) and the 9th International Conference on Soft Methods in Probability and Statistics (SMPS 2018) will be held jointly in Compiègne, France, on September 17-21, 2018. The BELIEF and SMPS conferences are biennial events concerning the modeling of uncertainty. The BELIEF conferences are sponsored by the Belief Functions and Applications Society (BFAS) and are focused on the theory of belief functions, while the scope of SMPS covers the application of all approaches to uncertainty (including fuzzy and rough sets, imprecise probabilities, etc.) to statistics and data analysis. The co-location of the two events is intended to favor cross-fertilization among researchers active in both communities. A single registration will be required to attend the whole BELIEF 2018/SMPS 2018 event. Tentative timetable: - March 15: Paper submission deadline - April 30: Author notification - May 30: Camera-ready copy due Proceedings The proceedings of the BELIEF 2018 and SMPS 2018 conferences will appear as separate volumes, both published by Springer-Verlag. IJAR Special issues Authors of selected papers from the BELIEF 2018/ SMPS 2018 conferences will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for possible inclusion in special issues of the International Journal of Approximate Reasoning. ***apologies for cross posting*** Call for papers Special Session on "IMPRECISE PROBABILITIES: FOUNDATIONS AND APPLICATIONS" to be held at the 17th International Conference on Information Processing and Management of Uncertainty in Knowledge-Based Systems (IPMU 2018) http://ipmu2018.uca.es// Cádiz (Spain), June 11-15, 2018 Session topic and goal This session is devoted to Imprecise Probability Theory. This theory encompasses all the mathematical models that can be used as more flexible tools than usual Probability Theory when the available information is scarce, vague or incomplete. It includes lower previsions, n- monotone capacities, belief functions and possibility measures, among others. We would like to attract papers that discuss and solve foundational questions, or clearly demonstrate the usefulness of imprecise probabilistic models in an application. We would particularly welcome papers going from theoretical advances to the solution of an associated applied problem. Note also that Imprecise Probability Theory is connected to other topics within the scope of IPMU, such as Dempster-Shafer Evidence Theory, Fuzzy Measures and their connections to Game Theory. Papers in these topics emphasizing the role of Imprecise Probabilities are also welcome. In JIST 2017, we have two special tracks. Special Track on Energy-awareness & Semantic Technologies: As semantic technologies gain momentum, their impact on resources and society increases. Energy-consumption is one of the main challenges of 21st century. The potential contribution of semantic technologies towards this problem is twofold. On the one hand semantic technologies can assist in energy management as they are often the core of context-aware, self-adaptive applications. For instance, ontologies are used to integrate heterogeneous sources such as sensors or reasoners are employed in grid management applications. On the other hand, the efficiency of semantic technologies is still mainly assessed by running times. While computational and cognitive complexity are investigated, work on their energy-consumption is still in its infancy. However, assessing and managing their energy-consumption is a vital prerequisite for for their usefulness on mobile devices, for instance. The special track calls for contributions regarding, but not limited to: - energy-adaptive semantic technologies - measurement frameworks for energy consumption of semantic technologies - application of semantic technologies for energy management - ontologies for energy management - semantic technologies for power or grid management Special Track on Semantic Processing for Knowledge Graphs: Semantic technologies such as Linked Data promote publication of various data and knowledge on the web with semantic links among them. They form huge sized knowledge bases called Knowledge Graphs in a large variety of domains. An important technical feature of Knowledge Graphs is their rich semantics. This special track focuses on semantics of Knowledge Graphs, especially on how to use their semantics towards practical applications.
