URSW 2015 CALL FOR PAPERS 11th International Workshop on Uncertainty Reasoning for the Semantic Web http://c4i.gmu.edu/ursw/2015 In conjunction with the 14th International Semantic Web Conference Bethlehem, PA - US October 11 or 12, 2015 You are invited to participate in the upcoming workshop on Uncertainty Reasoning for the Semantic Web (URSW), to be held as part of the 14th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC) in October 11-15, 2015 Bethlehem, PA - US . ISWC is a major international forum for presenting visionary research on all aspects of the Semantic Web. The Uncertainty Reasoning workshop is an exciting opportunity for collaboration and cross-fertilization between the uncertainty reasoning community and the Semantic Web / Linked Data community. Effective methods for reasoning under uncertainty are vital for realizing many aspects of the Semantic Web vision, but the ability of current-generation web technology to handle uncertainty remains extremely limited. Thus, there is a continuing demand for uncertainty reasoning technology among Semantic Web researchers and developers, and the URSW workshop creates a unique opening to bring together two communities with a clear commonality of interest but limited history of interaction. By capitalizing on this opportunity, URSW could spark dramatic progress toward realizing the Semantic Web vision. Each submission will be evaluated for acceptability by at least three members of the Program Committee. Decisions about acceptance will be based on relevance to the above topic list, originality, potential significance, topicality and clarity. Since all accepted papers will be presented at the workshop, we require that at least one of the submitting authors must be a registered participant at the ISWC 2015 Conference, and committed to attend the URSW Workshop. Submissions to the workshop are only accepted in electronic format and should be sent via the workshop’s EasyChair submission site: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ursw2015 Papers must be formatted in the style of the Springer Publications format for Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). This is the very same format adopted by the ISWC 2015. CALL FOR PAPERS International Journal of Approximate Reasoning Special issue on Statistical and Computational methods for genomics and integrative genomics http://www.journals.elsevier.com/international-journal-of-approximate-reaso… Background and Scope: In the last decade, the advent of microarray and next-generation sequencing technologies has created the need of statistical and computational methodologies specifically developed for dealing with these types of data and novel biomedical research goals. Genomic data measure quantities (such as, gene-expression, copy number, genotype, methylation) at several thousands or millions of positions along the genome, resulting in an enormous amount of information from which to extract the relevant content. They are usually noisy and subject to uncertainties due to non-biological variations, which must be taken into account during the modelling and inferential processes. Many other issues arise when the field of application regards the study of complex genetic diseases, since patients can be highly heterogeneous and several different lesions may alter the same biological pathway. Moreover, the number of patients is usually small with respect to the number of variables, which brings another facet to the problem. Approaches that try to overcome all these difficulties rely on biological assumptions and integrate established knowledge and multiple types of data. Data integration may comprise not only different genomic data, but also clinical and other patient information. Combining all this information by an accurate biological and statistical modelling may allow us to achieve reliable biomedical discoveries. Inferential and computational issues must be also considered, as data have very high dimension and computational resources are limited. Papers are sought on theoretical and practical considerations involving statistical and computational approaches to address problems and data from the biomedical domain, including but not limited to: Next generation sequencing data Microarray data Data integration in genomics Genetic network modelling and inference Gene pattern discovery Disease classification and prediction Biomarker discovery Computational biology General methodological and algorithmic developments are also welcome as long as they have a clear applicability to the biomedical domain. (http://jmlr.csail.mit.edu/proceedings) [SCOPE] Probabilistic multivariate models, such as Bayesian nets, MRFs, and others which are based on conditional independence assumptions, are important tools in machine learning and artificial intelligence for reasoning with uncertainty. The quantification of the parameters usually requires sharp (i.e., precise) assessments of the model potentials and might be subject to robustness issues. For instance, perturbations of some parameter values may lead to different decisions from those which would be achieved by the unperturbed model, suggesting that decisions are not reliable. Reliability might also be in question because of missing data and assumptions behind the process. The workshop invites submissions of papers on all aspects of sensitivity analysis and robustness in probabilistic models. Contributions may have a theoretical focus and/or an applied focus. A non-exhaustive list of topics follows. - Local and/or global sensitivity analysis. - Parameter-based and/or decision-based sensitivity analysis. - Design of robust learning, inference and/or decision making approaches. - Robust analysis and design of robustness measurements. - Reliable qualitative learning and reasoning. - Robust treatment of missing data. - Imprecise probability and other theories related to sensitivity analysis. - Computational complexity, exact and approximate algorithms. Such guarantees can be provided if we use optimization techniques that provide automatic result verification. To provide desirable guarantees, we need to take into account that, due to measurement uncertainty, we only know approximate values of the numerical characteristics describing engineering systems. Often, the only information that we have about the measurement uncertainty is the upper bound on the measurement error; in such cases, all we know about the actual value of the corresponding characteristic is the interval containing this value. Techniques for processing such interval data -- interval computation and interval analysis - are powerful mathematical techniques applied in many areas including uncertainty modelling, constraint programming and numerical verification. These techniques are often the essential ingredients for developing robust, reliable and efficient algorithms in optimization. The aim of this special issue is to bring together contributions in engineering optimization and Operations Research that use interval approach (and other techniques with automatic results verification) as the main or auxiliary mathematical tool. Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the first Workshop on Uncertainty in Machine Learning (WUML) will take place in Compiègne, during the 15th and 16th June. It will be held in the Compiègne University of Technology. The major aim of the workshop is to stimulate discussion on ongoing researches, very recent developments and challenging open problems regarding the treatment of uncertainty in machine learning. Each of the two days of the workshop will consist of presentations covering a specific topic, while also leaving ample time for discussion. The first day will be devoted to the treatment of uncertain (e.g., missing, noisy, imprecise, …) data in the inference and learning process, while the second day will be devoted to uncertainty in the learned model and in the predictions (e.g., rejection strategies, indeterminate predictions, using sets of models, …). A gala dinner will also take place on the night of the first day. Everyone (PhD students as well as senior researchers) is welcome to participate and/or to present their views on these problems! Wewelcome any stimulating contribution, ranging from a presentation to ashort informal statement. Do not hesitate to contact us for more information. Previous symposia have been successfully held in Ishikawa, Japan (IUM 2010 - AISC 68), Hangzhou, China (IUKM 2011 - LNAI 7027) and Beijing, China (IUKM 2013 - LNAI 8032). The fourth IUKM (2015) will take place in the beautiful coastal city of Nha Trang, Vietnam, during 15th-17th October, 2015. The submissions will be peer-reviewed for originality and scientific quality. As done in previous editions, the proceedings of IUKM 2015 will be published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series, and be available at the Symposium. Authors are requested to prepare their papers in the Springer LNAI format. This workshop was associated to the Vienna Summer of Logic. The aim of PRUV is to bring together people from different communities (such as the Artificial Intelligence and the Semantic Web community, among others), including theorists and practitioners, working on logics for reasoning about preferences, uncertainty, and vagueness. Making researchers aware of and fruitfully discuss the most recent application areas, new challenges and the existing body of work on logics for reasoning about preferences, uncertainty, and vagueness, respectively is the main goal of the meeting. (http://jmlr.csail.mit.edu/proceedings) [SCOPE] Probabilistic graphical models are important tools in machine learning and artificial intelligence for reasoning with uncertainty. They provide means to represent large multivariate domains compactly and to perform sophisticated learning and reasoning efficiently. Examples of probabilistic graphical models are Bayesian networks, Markov Random fields, chain and factor graphs, Gaussian graphical models, to name but a few. The quantification of these models usually requires sharp (i.e., precise) assessments of the model local potentials and might be subject to robustness issues. For instance, perturbations of some parameter values may lead to different decisions from those which would be achieved by the unperturbed model, suggesting that decisions are not reliable. Reliability might also be in question because of missing data and assumptions behind the process. The workshop invites submissions of papers on all aspects of sensitivity analysis and robustness in probabilistic graphical models. Contributions may have a theoretical focus and/or an applied focus. A non-exhaustive list of topics follows. - Local and/or global sensitivity analysis. - Parameter-based and/or decision-based sensitivity analysis. - Design of robust learning, inference and/or decision making approaches. - Robust analysis and design of robustness measurements. - Extensions of probabilistic graphical models. - Reliable qualitative learning and reasoning. - Robust treatment of missing data. - Imprecise probability and other theories related to sensitivity analysis. - Computational complexity, exact and approximate algorithms. The DI (Decision and Image) team of the Heudiasyc (Heuristic and Diagnostic Methods for Complex Systems) laboratory recruits one PhD student funded by the French ministry of education. The thesis topic concern the problem of learning what are the optimal pieces of information one should query to reduce uncertainty and reach a unique optimal decision. Depending on its preferences and skills, the candidate will either focus on active learning or expert elicitation problems. The student work will be performed in close collaboration with experts in the fields of learning and reasoning under uncertainty. The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to research and to the completion of the PhD program, has strong skills in mathematics or computer science, has good communication skills in English, good programming skills, and ability to work in a collaborative environment. Dear SIPTA list member, We are happy to announce the ** 8th Workshop on Principles and Methods of Statistical Inference with Interval Probability (WPMSIIP) ** to take place from ** Monday, 31st August, to Saturday, 5th September, 2015 in Munich, Germany. ** (See also maths.dur.ac.uk/stats/people/fc/wpmsiip.html for the previous workshops in this series and the successively updated workshop page at www.statistik.lmu.de/wpmsiip_2015/index.html.) The workshop follows the established WPMSIIP format and focuses on the informal discussion of ongoing research in imprecise probability and related topics. Thus it provides an ideal platform for stimulating exchange of ideas, including the opportunity for PhD students to present their first results to a wider, encouraging audience. The workshop week from Monday to Friday is roughly structured by (generally formulated) 'theme days', which are organized individually by two topic experts in the style they feel appropriate. On Saturday there will be a day excursion to a nice place nearby. Everyone is most welcome to participate and to present her/his views on one or more of the covered topics, on one or more days! We welcome any stimulating contribution, ranging from a 5 minutes sketch of some current idea or an unanswered question to a longer presentation of ongoing research or discussion panels on controversial issues. A full-time PhD Scholarship on Regression with Interval Data is available at the University of Hull, Department of Mathematics. Regression is one of the main methods of statistical analysis, widely used in all application fields. However, data are often not of the quality required in order to perform standard regression analyses. In particular, data are often interval-censored, meaning that data values are not known exactly, but only known to lie in particular intervals. The goal of the PhD project is to develop a well-founded general approach to regression with interval-censored data. The closing date for applications is 13 February 2015. Next to the statement-based formulation, we also provide a translation in terms of preference relations, discuss—as a bridge to existing frameworks—a number of simplified variants, and show the relationship with prevision-based uncertainty models. IJCAI’15 Workshop on Sensitivity Analysis and Robustness in Probabilistic Graphical Models Buenos Aires, July 25-27, 2015 - http://ipg.idsia.ch/wijcai15/ FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS Probabilistic graphical models are important tools in machine learning and artificial intelligence for reasoning with uncertainty. They provide means to represent large multivariate domains compactly and to perform sophisticated learning and reasoning efficiently. Examples of probabilistic graphical models are Bayesian networks, Markov Random fields, chain and factor graphs, Gaussian graphical models, to name but a few. The quantification of these models usually requires sharp (i.e., precise) assessments of the model local potentials and might be subject to robustness issues. For instance, perturbations of some parameter values may lead to different decisions from those which would be achieved by the unperturbed model, suggesting that decisions are not reliable. Reliability might also be in question because of missing data and assumptions behind the process. The workshop invites submissions of papers on all aspects of sensitivity analysis and robustness in probabilistic graphical models. Contributions may have a theoretical focus and/or an applied focus. A non-exhaustive list of topics follows. - Local and/or global sensitivity analysis. - Parameter-based and/or decision-based sensitivity analysis. - Design of robust learning, inference and/or decision making approaches. - Robust analysis and design of robustness measurements. - Extensions of probabilistic graphical models. - Reliable qualitative learning and reasoning. - Robust treatment of missing data. - Imprecise probability and other theories related to sensitivity analysis. - Computational complexity, exact and approximate algorithms. Each submission will be reviewed by peers using a double-blind process (please use the third person in self citations and take all necessary care not to identify yourselves). Accepted papers will be published electronically in a volume of the JMLR Workshop and Conference Proceedings series. There will be no rebuttal phase, but contributions considered worth publishing and needing substantial revision might be subject to a second round of reviewing/evaluation. All accepted papers will be presented at the workshop. At least one of the paper's authors should register and attend the workshop to present the work. Submissions must be formatted according to style and template files available for the Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR) Workshop and Conference Proceedings - two-column version.
