Dear Siptians, Some time ago, we (mainly Pierre-Henri Wuillemin and Matthieu Hourbrack) added some credal network possibilities to AGRUM (https://agrum.gitlab.io/) a general package to work with graph-based models that is quite successful (~150.000 downloads last year). In his last survey (preparing an upcoming user day), Pierre-Henri was happily surprised to see that credal networks was one of the most used feature by users. He therefore wonders if anyone from the community was using it, or had useful feedbacks to provide. Just let me or Pierre-Henri know if this is the case, and if not you can always give AGRUM a try to put a little zest in your day! Dear colleagues, This is just a message to advertise that, as every year, the CNRS will soon consider applications to become a CNRS permanent researcher, usually with an application deadline around the beginning of january. The application process is competitive, with positions offering a lot of freedom in terms of research, and not coming with any teaching duties (although some can be taken). Speaking french is also optional (but helps in every day life). Applicants are required to provide a research statement of their past activities as well as a research project, and can apply to any CNRS-related laboratory in France (UMR CNRS). There are a number of such laboratories/team in which some researchers focus on uncertainty modelling with an imprecise/ambiguity component, including teams focusing on computer science (CID in Heudiasyc, CRIL, ADRIA in IRIT), economy (GREGHEC at HEC Paris), cognitive psychology (L.P.C. Aix-Marseille Université), and probably others I do not know. While announcements about this year application process have not been done yet, prospective/interested applicants should already contact laboratories they would like to join, in order to prepare the applications. Double-blind reviewing is used for research papers, so submitted papers must not reveal authors identify (for example, use your paper ID from EasyChair instead of author name in your paper). There are three kinds of submissions: * full paper - a paper of high quality, which will be published in the proceedings (up to 6 pages) and will be presented by the author in a corresponding track (20 minute oral presentation); * short paper - a paper that shows some novelty and general interest, but is more preliminary or in the early stages of development, which also get published in the proceedings (up to 4 pages) and the author presents the work in a poster session; and * poster abstract, which will be published as abstract only (up to 250 words; please follow this format for the final camera-ready poster abstract) and the author presents the work in a poster session. Rejected full papers may still be accepted as short papers or poster abstracts, if reviewers found interest in the idea, but the paper quality was not sufficient to be published in full length. For each accepted paper (full, short, or poster abstract), there must be an accompanying AUTHOR REGISTRATION. A single author may have up to a maximum of two papers per AUTHOR REGISTRATION. This theory involves all the mathematical models that can be used as more flexible tools than usual Probability Theory when the available information is scarce, vague or incomplete. This is a full time (100%) position for a student working in the area of multi-agent deep reinforcement learning. The position, granted by the center of technology of the Swiss Department of Defense (armasuisse S+T), is part of a program for the automatic control of flight simulation environments in multi-agent setups. The theory of belief functions is now well established as a general framework for reasoning with uncertainty, and has well understood connections to other frameworks such as probability, possibility and imprecise probability theories. It has been applied in diverse areas such as machine learning, information fusion and risk analysis. The BELIEF conferences (sponsored by the Belief Functions and Applications Society https://www.bfasociety.org/) are dedicated to the confrontation of ideas, the reporting of recent achievements and the presentation of the wide range of applications of this theory. The first edition of this conference series was held in Brest, France, in 2010. Later editions were held in Compiègne, France in 2012, Oxford, UK in 2014, Prague, Czech Republic in 2016, and again in Compiègne, France in 2018. The Sixth International Conference on Belief Functions (BELIEF 2021) will be located in Shanghai, China, on October 15-19, 2021, together with the 2021 International Conference on Cognitive analytics, Granular computing, and Three-way decisions (CCGT). The theory of belief functions is now well established as a general framework for reasoning with uncertainty, and has well understood connections to other frameworks such as probability, possibility and imprecise probability theories. It has been applied in diverse areas such as machine learning, information fusion and risk analysis. The BELIEF conferences (sponsored by the Belief Functions and Applications Society https://www.bfasociety.org/) are dedicated to the confrontation of ideas, the reporting of recent achievements and the presentation of the wide range of applications of this theory. The first edition of this conference series was held in Brest, France, in 2010. Later editions were held in Compiègne, France in 2012, Oxford, UK in 2014, Prague, Czech Republic in 2016, and again in Compiègne, France in 2018. The Sixth International Conference on Belief Functions (BELIEF 2021) will be located in Shanghai, China, on October 15-19, 2021, together with the 2021 International Conference on Cognitive analytics, Granular computing, and Three-way decisions (CCGT). It will be held both onsite and online due to the COVID-19 situation (see Venue and Registration below for details). Submission and Proceedings ========================== The proceedings of the BELIEF 2021 conference will be published by Springer-Verlag in a volume of the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNCS/LNAI) series and indexed by: ISI Web of Science; EI Engineering Index; ACM Digital Library; dblp; Google Scholar; IO-Port; MathSciNet; Scopus; Zentralblatt MATH. Previous BELIEF proceedings can be found on SpringerLink. Authors should consult Springer’s authors’ guidelines and use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for Word, for the preparation of their papers. Springer encourages authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers. In addition, the corresponding author of each paper, acting on behalf of all of the authors of that paper, must complete and sign a Consent-to-Publish form. The corresponding author signing the copyright form should match the corresponding author marked on the paper. These early contributions have been the starting points of many important developments, including the Transferable Belief Model and the Theory of Hints. The theory of belief functions is now well established as a general framework for reasoning with uncertainty, and has well understood connections to other frameworks such as probability, possibility and imprecise probability theories. The BELIEF conferences (sponsored by the Belief Functions and Applications Society https://www.bfasociety.org/) are dedicated to the confrontation of ideas, the reporting of recent achievements and the presentation of the wide range of applications of this theory. The first edition of this conference series was held in Brest, France, in 2010, the second edition in Compiègne, France, in 2012, the third edition in Oxford, UK, in 2014, the fourth edition in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2016, and the fifth edition in Compiègne, France, in 2018. The Sixth International Conference on Belief Functions (BELIEF 2021) will be located in Shanghai, China, on October 15-19, 2021, together with the 2021 International Conference on Cognitive analytics, Granular computing, and Three-way decisions (CCGT). It will be held totally or partially online depending on the evolution of the COVID-19 situation. Submission and Proceedings ======================= The proceedings of the BELIEF 2021 conference will be published by Springer-Verlag in a volume of the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNCS/LNAI) series and indexed by: ISI Web of Science; EI Engineering Index; ACM Digital Library; dblp; Google Scholar; IO-Port; MathSciNet; Scopus; Zentralblatt MATH. Previous BELIEF proceedings can be found on SpringerLink. Authors should consult Springer’s authors’ guidelines and use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for Word, for the preparation of their papers. Springer encourages authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers. In addition, the corresponding author of each paper, acting on behalf of all of the authors of that paper, must complete and sign a Consent-to-Publish form. The corresponding author signing the copyright form should match the corresponding author marked on the paper. Once the files have been sent to Springer, changes relating to the authorship of the papers cannot be made. IJAR Special issue ============== Authors of selected papers from the BELIEF 2021 conference will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for possible inclusion in a special issue of the International Journal of Approximate Reasoning.
